‘Festival of Music of the 1940s’ – 75th anniversary General MacArthur’s arrival in Brisbane

On 23 July 1942, General Douglas MacArthur, the Supreme Commander of all Allied Forces in the South West Pacific Area, arrived in Brisbane. MacArthur Museum Brisbane and the General Douglas MacArthur Brisbane Memorial Foundation will be staging commemorations of this significant time on the 75th Anniversary of MacArthur’s arrival.
The Foundation will be holding a ‘Festival of Music of the 1940s’ in the Queen Street Mall on Saturday 22 July. Bands include RAN Band, Andrews Sisters Tribute Band, Brisbane Excelsior Band, Steamboat Jazz Band and Corner Pocket Swing Band.
MacArthur Museum Brisbane will be open to the public from 10.00am to 3.00pm on Saturday 22 July with all admissions at the concession rate of $5.00 per person and school children admitted free. The Museum features the restored WWII office of General MacArthur and will be celebrating the opening of its new South West Pacific Area gallery.
