Book Launch ‘St John’s Cathedral and the Anzac Legend’
December 19 - December 19 | 7:00pm - 8:00pm
| FreeEvent Navigation

You are invited to the launch of a new book on the war memorials housed in St John’s Cathedral. The book, written by Cathedral historian, Denzil Scrivens, was inspired by the solving of the mystery of the Anzac Flag hanging in the Cathedral. The flag was discovered to be the very last flag flown at the evacuation of the Anzacs from Gallipoli on 19 December 1915.
The book contains research on the memorials to the Anzac campaigns at Gallipoli, Palestine and the Western Front during World War I; the Battles of Britain and El Alamein, the campaign in Papua New Guinea during World War II, the peacetime HMAS Voyager disaster of 1964; the Vietnam War; and the Cathedral’s regimental Colours.
The book will be launched by the Governor of Queensland on 19 December 2018, 103 years to the day since the Gallipoli evacuation.
