Commemorating Lives and Remembering Legacies – Anzac Day at Saint Andrew’s
April 25 - April 25 | 8:00am - 9:30am| Free
Saint Andrew’s Uniting Church will hold a special Anzac Day service to honour those who have served our country, highlighting contributions of those whose names appear on the WWI Honour Boards in the Church’s Merrington Anzac Memorial Peace Chapel. Anzac Day services this year will refer in particular to Australia’s significant part in and around Villers-Brettoneux.
Used in the service will be the communion set taken by the Saint Andrew’s Minister, Rev Dr Merrington, when he served as Chaplain with AIF troops at Egypt, Gallipoli and Europe. Also displayed will be the large Australian Flag flown by Merrington at Le Havre on Armistice Day.
After the service, visitors will be given the chance to learn more about the Church’s Heritage Committee research project which was undertaken to tell the previously unknown stories of people listed on the Honour Boards and now published in a series of booklets displayed in the Merrington Chapel and on the heritage website. At the conclusion of the 8am service everyone will have a chance to peruse the chapel and Stories from the Honour Board. Tea and coffee and Anzac biscuits will be available.
