Lang’s Ships Commemoration
September 14 - September 14 | 10:30am - 1:00pm| Free
Toowong & Districts Historical Society (TDHS) are hosting a morning tea to mark 170 years since the arrival of Toowong pioneer Robert Cribb and his brother Benjamin in Moreton Bay.
Fortitude, Chasely and Lima all arrived in 1849 under Dr John Dunmore Lang’s immigration scheme which brought approximately 600 free settlers to the former penal colony.
Join TDHS at this historic riverside residence to reflect on 170 years of change in Brisbane since Lang’s ships arrived. Share photos, stories and memories of Toowong and of the Cribb family. Celebrate new publications:
- Author Beth Johnson has published a shorter biography of Robert Cribb,
- TDHS member Lee Bull has completed a book about Toowong’s ‘Lang Farm Estate’ which traces land ownership after Robert Cribb’s 1852 purchase of Lang Farm and adjacent blocks,
- TDHS member Leigh Chamberlain has completed a book of Toowong reminiscences and
- Descendant Patsy Jones is working on a book about Robert Cribb’s grandson, William Alfred Cribb.
