Adderton: house & heart of mercy
Adderton is closed to visitors till further notice due to COVID-19 health precautions.
Overlooking the Brisbane River, with expansive views of the Story Bridge, Adderton – renamed in 1863 as the Convent of Our Lady of Mercy, All Hallows’ – has been at the heart of the Sisters of Mercy’s work in Brisbane since 1863.The rejuvenated Adderton: house & heart of mercy is a space for the community, focused on creativity, engagement, justice, learning and reflection.
Through the Adderton initiative, the former All Hallows’ Convent opens its doors again, offering an exciting range of exhibitions and activities for visitors of all ages and from all walks of life. Adderton is a place for you to be inspired, try new skills, connect and be valued, learn, get involved, reflect, or just relax for a while.
One highlight of Adderton is an immersive installation showing the footprint of the Sisters of Mercy in Queensland. The first chapter of Our Working Hearts features the story of Mother Mary Vincent Whitty. Drawing on her own thoughts and words you will come to know Mother Mary Vincent (Ellen) Whitty as indefatigable and human. Come see the installation on Level 1 during opening hours.
